It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Europe is spending heavily on defense and security again after years of underinvestment. Increasingly more of this money is being allocated towards software. Alongside this, there's growing pressure to build this kind of technology inside Europe, under European rules, rather than depending on American vendors. AI has been notoriously slow to reach government and the defense industry, mainly due to lack of security and trust.
Nordan AI, a Stockholm-based startup, founded in 2025, builds decision-support software for organizations where a wrong call is too costly to risk, such as defense, government, critical infrastructure, emergency preparedness. Their product pulls the live information these organizations run on, supply routes, suppliers, personnel, incoming reports and signals into one operational picture, watches for problems, and recommends what to do. It's built so the user can understand and audit how it reached a recommendation, not just the data behind it.
The biggest risk here is execution. The hardest part of a platform like this is getting it out of the demo stage and into something that runs in live operations.
The core team consists of CEO Evelina Anttila, a trained lawyer who was a partner at Mannheimer Swartling, helped build the Wallenberg-backed AI company Peltarion (sold to King in 2022) and most recently CEO at the VC-firm Wellstreet. On the technical side Nordan has recruited Tim Isbister (Founding CTO and ML Engineer) and Carl Carlheim-Gyllensköld (Founding AI Adoption Engineer).
They have raised €1.4M led by Ludvig Strigeus, who built the early Spotify desktop client and uTorrent, he has also joined the board.
